About the day:
10:00 Arrival and greeting in the Barn/ Studio space.
Attire: We will be working upstairs in the loft space so please wear comfortable and stable shoes for walking on unsteady ground. This area doesn’t have air conditioning so please consider layers!
We will begin with a welcome and jump right in to exploring our compositional abilities using the elements and principles which lend themselves to dynamic fresco building.
We will cover the flowers which work best and the stages of those flowers along with ones to steer clear of.
We will cover step by step instruction and construction of the base creation and elements of the process:
We will together (in real time) go through the process of creating our pieces. I will work beside you on a piece and with you at the same time.
In this process we will
explore our tools
explore mark making
discuss layering
learn about our materials
go over safety and storage of material
create our base work
All in an educated methodical but creatively free way. You will be lead to create your own composition from your heart. You will learn how to let the flowers speak and how to manipulate them to create the feeling you are trying to capture.
Flowing in to the paint process:
We will delve into value theory along with other “historic Art knowings” and apply that to the Fresco painting.. With careful planning we will be confident in letting go and creating flowing movement as we will build layers of colour to convey the emotion and environment our hearts desire.
You will have base pieces to take home for further painting practice and of course one fully completed piece to cement the process in to your memory!
*After your workshop - Via email links - You will be given access to my online course recording of the base process as well as a 3 segment recording of my 2026 Small Group Online Paint Workshop which will give you even more tools to come back to! In this recorded workshop we work through the planning, considerations and rules of Art as applied to frescos. This is a group session recording where you will take in scheduled lessons with elaboration by reflective questions, observational pondering and perspectives of students during our time together in the course.
